Making It

Oh, get your minds out of the gutter!

By "making it", I mean being successful in our chosen fields. Yesterday, Tobias commented that he'd know he'd "made it" when he could buy a full set of office furniture - with cupboards!

For those of you who are writers - how do you measure "making it"? Is it selling your first story? Your first story to an established magazine (whatever that means!)? To an anthology? Is it getting a novel contract? A multi-book contract? A movie option? A movie green-lighted? Made?

I'll feel that I have made it when I can quit the day-job.

And I don't see that happening any time soon. I *like* the day-job, and it pays well. Besides, D.C. is an expensive city to live in. Even though I joke about moving to Ames, I'm not ready to do that. Yet.

Mindy, dreaming of the big time
