Testing. Testing. Is this thing live?

Welcome to Virtual Mojitos, my blog. I hope that you'll all feel free to post comments, to participate in dicussions, and to generally play the blog game with me!

Blogs I Read

While, as near as I can tell, LiveJournal doesn't have a blogrolling feature, I figured I'd make occasional entries about the blogs that I read on a regular basis. (Yes, there are too many of them - why do you ask?)

First off, for this morning: Miss Snark, the Literary Agent: http://misssnark.blogspot.com/

I only discovered Miss Snark a few weeks ago. I've been impressed with her information, though, and her tone is fun. If you're looking for a window on New York publishing or if you have questions about how to get published, Miss Snark can be a good resource. (Note: Miss Snark does not handle fantasy or SF manuscripts; nevertheless, much of her information can be valuable to fantasy and SF writers.)

Words of Wisdom

Garrison Keillor wrote an article in Salon, about the nature of writing and reading (and the strange agony of seeing someone read one of your books in public.) In the article he says:

One reads books in order to gain the privilege of living more than one life.... This is the benefit of literacy. Life is lonely; it is less so if one reads.

I could not agree more. Keillor has essentially said what my mother told me, decades ago, when she said that I could go anywhere with a book in my hands.
