Reading/Discussion Tonight

Just a quick reminder - tonight I'll be at the Georgetown (Washington, DC) Barnes and Noble, on M Street, between 30th and 31st, at 7:30 p.m.  I'll probably be reading a bit from GIRL'S GUIDE, discussing genre writing and writing in general, and taking questions.  It'll be a casual get-together, and no one is required to buy books.  I hope to see some of you there!

How do choose LAST names for your characters?

I actually choose last names much like I choose first names - I try to find names that "sound like" the personality of the character, and then I try to balance first names and last names, much like any parent :-)

I started out with Jane for Jane Madison (plain Jane, a poor invisible librarian), and then added Madison because I liked the rhythm and the allusion to colonial leaders (in light of her job in the library).
