Diamond Commercial
Do you remember (or, have you ever seen) the TV ad for some type of luxury car, saying that the suspension was so smooth that a diamond could be faceted in the back seat, without fear of destroying the stone? (And, as a corollary, do you remember the Saturday Night Live skit, saying that a bris could be completed under the same circumstances?)
If you *don't* know these ads, could you post, and let me know your age (by a range of years, if you don't want to say specifically)?
Thanks!
Mindy, wondering if an allusion will work

Born in 1946.
Which reminds me - I loved the post you did on smores. I picked up what they were from books, but I could NEVER figure out why someone would want a savoury cracker as a base for marshmallow and chocolate yumminess until a post on that thread explained what graham crackers were!
Hubby is mid thirties life long american, also used to watch SNL, and he vaguely remembers both the ad and the skit.
I'm 57.

I remember the "real" ads too, though none were nearly as memorable as the spoof. While the spoof ad called it a "Royale Deluxe II", the actual car was apparently the "Mercury Grand Marquis" (look at #31 on the following page):

Come to think of it, that name does seem awfully familiar ....
See also this list of SNL "spoof" commercials:

My other all-time favorite ad was "HiberNol", a spoof on NyQuil.
I lost track of the show after about 1980; during my high school years, I pretty much abandoned TV altogether in favor of reading and studying.
For the record, I'm 41.

Do you remember any skits involving a Japanese version of Star Wars? (This came up during a family discussion yesterday...)
Mindy (who was never much of an SNL watcher.)
