I spent the weekend with family — my parents and their grandson (my seven-year-old nephew.) I would give a *lot* to have one one-hundredth of my nephew’s energy. Why walk, when you can run? Why run, when you can skip? Why skip, when you can hop backwards?
Nephew and I spent an entire day at the zoo. He had a camera, and he was taking pics of most of the animals. I chose to “look with my eyes”, although I did take a couple of snaps of him playing on statues of beasties. I was most taken with the tigers — huge, lean, muscled cats who strode around their *huge* enclosure when they chose to (and slept out of sight under the trees when they didn’t!) I also loved watching the river otters (I always love seeing them play!) and the *wolverines* — who had huge long nails that could rip a creature apart in seconds, but were playing like kittens, racing around their double-enclosure like mad things.
Of course, the zoo included caramel corn, and a ride on the monorail, and lots and lots of walking. It was a *gorgeous* day, with the temperature just low enough that the animals were invigorated, and we had a grand time.
Other excursions included a “pond study” morning at a local nature center. We took a huge plastic bucket and some smaller bowls, nets, and a magnifying glass, and we traipsed out to a couple of ponds in the reserve. At the first, we found a normal assortment of water boatmen and water scorpions, some much smaller critters, etc. At the second pond, we found minnows and snails and frogs (the latter never made it into our bucket!), and a leech! The leech was the most fascinating part of the day — how it stretched out to swim and then balled up when it felt threatened. It attached to a minnow (without deadly results) but avoided the snails.
Lots of other adventures and lots of family time, along with visiting with friends.
All of which was not quite enough to distract me from the fact that SINGLE WITCH’S SURVIVAL GUIDE’s official release day is TOMORROW! (Bounce, bounce, bounce!)
So? What exciting things did you do on *your* weekend?
