Web Hosting

I'm about to set up a new website for a writing-related business.  The site will be simple - I'm going to download an open source template and tweak it - mostly, the site will have a few documents posted, and an email address to contact me (no shopping cart, no fancy apps...)  I use Dreamweaver to get and put files; I am by no means a tech person, and I don't anticipate having the time or inclination to learn any site management tips.  (I'm pretty much looking for the equivalent of WYSIWYG in web hosting.)

My current website is hosted by sff.net, and I haven't had any problems with them, but I'm pretty sure they're more pricey than I need.

Any recommendations for a web hosting service?  Any "avoid at all costs"?

Lunarpages is great and inexpensive. I use it for my personal page and I know the National Geographic uses them for their awesome internal wikis.

No suggestions, but I will eavesdrop on the suggestions you get!
Avoid Dreamhost. For what you're looking to do, just about anyone will work though. Just don't pay much. For your kind of site, I charge my clients only $20 a year for hosting. Should be that much or less.
SFFNet pricey?

They host my site--I always thought them reasonable. Then there's the tech service response, which you don't need until you need, but when you need it...
I use godaddy. They are fairly cheap and reliable.
I use IX Web Hosting. Never had a problem and they're really cheap. :)
My site is hosted on Freewebs, and I bought my domain from them. It's totally WYSIWYG - even I can keep up. The basic (don't get the advanced, that's for peopl who write in code) editor is pretty idiot proof.

As long as you don't use the freewebs.com address and have or get a domain, you don't get any ads either. I don't pay anything except my domain renewal fee. There are some basic packages that are pretty cheap, though, if you want something more.
I use hostmonster.com and I've liked their service. They're the standard $7/month, but I like their built in widgets (stats tracker, cart, etc), cpanel and php support...
I use MacHighway for my hosting and Rapidweaver for my design. I can't recommend Rapidweaver enough if you're inexperienced with site design and want something to look good. Much easier than Dreamweaver, but of course useless if you use Windows. MacHighway isn't the cheapest but they're reasonable and have fantastic customer service. And everything has been working for me.
I haven't had any complaints about ehostpros.
My websites:

www.fearlessink.com (business)
www.devonellingtonwork.com (devon * other pseudonyms)
www.cerridwenscottage.com (Cerridwen Iris Shea, tarot, et al)

are on 1and1. The price is good, I like the templates, but the service I find hit or miss.

They're better than the Yahoo Hosting Service and better than Homestead, but I'm still not satisfied.

I'm thinking of doing some new sites with either Fat Cow Web Hosting (I really liked talking to them) at www.fatcow.com.

I also really liked dealing with HostICan
www.hostican.com.

I need multiple sites and unlimited email addresses, so those (even including my current host) seem to work the best for me.

Good luck -- it's a tough step.
Many thanks - I know that you've had substantial problems with some of your hosts in the past, so it's interesting to me to hear what *has* worked for you!
PS GoDaddy could NOT meet my needs at all, and took two weeks or more to even answer simple questions, so they are a "not on your life" for me.
