Word Search - Philosophy Edition

A friend is looking for a word that describes a type of faith, an "ism":  The belief that God exists, but that man can never truly comprehend that God and, therefore, it is a waste of time and effort to worship that God.  He thinks that this word begins with "p".

Any philosophy wonks out there?  Weird word collectors?

This is typically considered a version of agnosticism. The other being that there is a god, but he doesn't care about us enough to interfere.
Someone who believes in a non-interventionist God is not an agnostic.
How about pan-deism? Here is the Wikipedia entry for that term. It sounds kinda sorta the same.
The only word that comes to mind is pragmatism.

Majored in Religious Studies but haven't encountered such a term. Did a bit of research and couldn't find it. Sounds like a common interpretation of agnosticism. As far as "p" words go, maybe some confusion from pantheism or panentheism. I'm thinking it would have to be a very specialized term used only by one or a select few writers.
I've heard "deist" used for that -- why the hell should God care about one member of one species of sentient among millions in the vast universe of space and time...
There was a belief-o-matic meme going around that had a whole list of beliefs I'd never heard about.

If she takes the quiz, it comes back at you with all sorts of beliefs, most of which I'd never heard of. Anyway, there's links and things, or she can also do a search of them on Wiki, too, which might lead her to others that would help.
"Deism" is what popped up for me as well. Several of America's Founding Fathers considered themselves deists.
I can only think of "deist", as some others have mentioned.

As an agnostic w/leanings towards a certain sort of pantheism, I can emphatically state it isn't either of those.
