Sadie Hawkins

Staying home from work today, fighting some general-malaise bug, but thinking about a MAGIC AND THE MODERN GIRL plot point...

Do you know what a Sadie Hawkins dance is?  And if you do, how old are you?

And, on a related note, do you know the significance of dating on February 29, in a leap year?  And if you do, how old are you?

Mindy, back to tea, and cats, and sleep...

I know the first one, and I am 27 going on 28.
I know what a Sadie Hawkins dance is...where the girls ask the boys out to the dance. We had them in junior high and high school.

I'm 51.
Do you know what a Sadie Hawkins dance is? And if you do, how old are you?

Yup--we had them at my high school.

I'm 49.
Sadie Hawkins: Yes.

February 29: No, sorry.

I'm 33.
Yes and yes, but I'm on the edge of 60. Well past Al Capp age...
First one, yes, 29. Second, no idea.
Sadie Hawkins - yes. I'm 43.

The leap year dating rings a bell but I'd have to do research and, as much as I'd enjoy it, it would skew the results. :-)
Sadie Hawkins Dance from L'il Abner cartoon--the girls get to ask the guys to the dance.

And I'm considerably older than you. My 34 year old son says I'll never be older than 24 and he has a degree in theoretical math.

As for dating on Feb 29 I vaguely remember it being an almost guranteed proposal nothing specific.
My high school had Sadie Hawkins dances. (I'm 24)

No clue about the leap year thing though.
Yes, I know what a Sadie Hawkins Dance is. On the other hand, I have no idea what dating on 2/29 could possibly signify.

who is 30-ish
Not only am I familiar with the concept of a Sadie Hawkins dance (and think it's a darn good idea), but I'm also quite familiar with its comic strip origins (but then again, I'm a vintage comics geek). And I'm 38.

As for dating in a leap year, are you referring to the (supposedly 13th Century Scottish) custom (initiated by Queen Margaret, or so goes the legend) that women are allowed (imagine, allowed) to propose to men on bissextile day (February 29th)? And I'm still 38.
I'm 48 - I'll be 49 in two weeks - and to me Feb 29th is the day when a woman can propose to her man - and he's supposed to accept.

I didn't wait - I proposed on a November afternoon and not a leap year :-)

(he accepted)
Yes, 53. And no, still 53.
Sadie Hawkins - yes, and I'm 30.

The Feb 29th thing, I don't know, but am now really interested to find out.

For the record, I know there was a Sadie Hawkins dance featured on Buffy the Vampire Slayer at one point, and I doubt it was the last T.V. show to do so. I think people are pretty likely to know about it.

Sadie Hawkins: yes (even got asked to a couple :)
Feb. 29: No idea.

I'm 41.
Yes to both, and I'm 46.
I'm 40, and I know the Sadie Hawkins dance, including its origin. February 29th, nothing comes to mind. ("I'm your mother, and I say you can't date boys until your 13th birthday!" "But Mom, I'll be past menopause by then!")
To answer your first question.... I do! A dance where traditionally the girls ask the boys to the function.

I'm 33. :)\

The second question, I have no answer.
44 here and as seems to be the general consensus, yes on Sadie Hawkins and no on Leap Year Day.
Yes. Yes. 42
Sadie Hawkins - Yes (we had a Sadie Hawkins Dance at camp one year). I'm 31.

Leap Year Day - No.
I know what a Sadie Hawkins dance is, and I am 37 years old. But I didn't know there was any significance to dating on February 29.
I know what Sadie Hawkins Dances are and I used to love Lil Abner. No idea about dating on Feb 29. I'm 41.
Sadie Hawkings, yes.

Leap Year Feb 29, no.

I'm 34.
Yes to the first one, and 24.

What the bog to the other one? I shall have to glance at the other comments now. ;)
